Research on Prosthetic Ecologies
Horta de Névoa is a site-specific installation that harvests atmospheric humidity from the basement of a disused shopping mall. Through fog-condensation mechanisms, the system collects water from enclosed air pockets, revealing the building’s latent hydrological cycles.
The installation introduces clay and wax elements designed to host fungi and bacterial growth, activating the site as a living ecological enclosure. By amplifying microbial presence through humidity, sound, and material feedback, the project reframes abandoned architecture as an active environmental system rather than inert infrastructure.
Developed during a residency within the Shopyard program (initiated in the context of Braga 25, Portuguese Capital of Culture) Horta de Névoa investigates how invisible water ecologies can be reactivated through atmospheric and material intervention.
