DHUNAR GAON (2025)

Collaboration research with Tiny Farm Lab

From March to May 2025 (Dhunar Gaon, India)

Dhunar Gaon was a three-month field research project developed with Tiny Farm Lab in the Indian Himalayas, focusing on bioregional materials and vernacular craft practices in the Dhunar Gaon region. The research combined seasonal observation, material experimentation, and collaboration with local makers.

The project resulted in three functional design objects responding to local ecological and climatic conditions: Ghosla, a fodder-carrying backpack woven from the invasive species Lantana camara; a pair of wild-clay water vessels adapted for summer use, made from river clay and cooked in a pit oven; and a balaclava woven from Bhimal fiber, suitable for both winter and summer conditions.

Rather than proposing new forms, Dhunar Gaon situates design as a continuation of living craft traditions, where material knowledge, ecology, and daily use converge to sustain adaptive practices over time.
